A friend of mine recently spent two weeks camping back in the wilds north and east of Garibaldi Park in British Columbia. I’d heard all about the trip for weeks beforehand, helping my friend to pick out books for the occasion. I of course pointed out that a fully-charged e-reader would easily last the length of the time allotted and give him the range of a thousand books, and I was of course ignored; my friend wanted sturdy hardcovers, enough to keep him busy but not enough to weigh him down, and all tailored to his reading tastes, which I bloody well should have known, since I formed those tastes myself.
