Once upon a time, at the heady dawn of readily-available e-reading technology, I dared to dream that I might at last be freed from my decades-long grapple with my own books. Here in the US, Amazon and Barnes & Noble were offering handy little devices called e-readers. These things were the general size and weight of a drink coaster, and beneath their drab plastic exteriors, they were nothing short of miraculous.
