Recently a box of old books arrived in the mail, culled by a friend from a far-distant library book sale that I would never have otherwise sampled. It’s always a thrill opening such a box, and the thrill was heightened this time around because so many of the books shared a common theme: they were about ladies of the Tudor era. In the box were no fewer than five old hardcovers, fiction and nonfiction about name-recognition women from Tudor times.
